Sea Freight between Asia and Europe may see huge improvements, if the Turkish Government succeed in the announced construction of a new channel – the “Istanbul Channel”.
The channel is to be built between the Black Sea and the Sea of Marmara in Istanbul with a length of approximately 45 kilometers. The waterway will be a safe alternative to the 30-kilometer Bosphorus. The strait between Europe and Asia is one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world.
No opening date has been set for the “Istanbul channel”.
Construction is to begin in 2018.
